Dear Wolcott Cousins,
Now that spring is finally in the air, it amazes me how quickly August sneaks up and the Wolcott Family Society reunion is just around the corner. This issue has all the information you'll need to join your cousins in Denver Colorado. It sounds like it will be another great reunion. We suggest that you spend a little extra time before or after the reunion to take in the sites. Colorado is a special place for Cindy and me as we got engaged in Loveland Colorado on St. Patrick's Day and were married in Golden Colorado one year later on St. Patrick's Day. We can't wait to get back.
We always look forward to traveling and going to our annual family reunions. It's enjoyable to visit new places and spend time with our cousins that we haven't seen in a while and catch up. It's also a great way to meet new relatives and get to know them. As you know we are always looking for reunion hosts. Our 2028 reunion will be held in the Minneapolis area, but we are still looking for someone that would be willing to host next year in 2027. If you have any interest in hosting or would like to help in any way, please contact myself or any of our officers. We would surely appreciate it.
The Wolcott Family website is a great place to learn everything you want to know about our Wolcott descendants. You can follow the lines of Henry and other prominent Wolcotts. There are articles and photos of Wolcott sites in England and many pictures of the church in Tolland, Somerset that we help support. I would recommend that you spend a little time and take a look around the site. The link is located under the Officers list.
I would like to thank Debbie Adelson for taking on the job of electronic newsletter editor and everyone else that worked on making this happen. And as always, a big thank you to Bob Leininger for his role as secretary and newsletter editor and for getting all of the files and articles together for the newsletters. I am happy and pleased to announce that our 1st Electronic Newsletter issue is in the works. We have been talking about it for years and have finally made it a reality. We still plan on printing at least our April issue that will include the reunion pull-out and other important society information. The 1st issue will be sent to the approximately 300 members that we now have email addresses for by the end of April. If you haven't received it by then, please contact Dave Wolcott, Bob Leininger, or Debbie Adelson to be added to the list. The platform being used is Constant Contact. It seems to be a popular choice for newsletter formats. I'm sure there will be a learning curve here, please be patient while the bugs are worked out. I hope you all enjoy it.

1682L, D.[ouglas] Darrell Wolcott, Jefferson, Texas, passed away October 3, 2025. He was founder and chief researcher for The Center for the Study of Ancient Wales (http://www.ancientwalesstudies.org/). Notice provided by Steve Ferry, board member for the Center, executor of Mr. Wolcott's will.

Clyta Faith Simpson Richardson, 104, Watertown, Massachusetts, passed away April 21, 2020, survived by daughters Joan Wrenn of Walnut Creek, California, and Marla Richardson of Newton, Massachusetts, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband Neil passed away in 1988. She held numerous important positions in the Methodist Church, and she was very interested in genealogy and conducted research in travels around the globe. Reunion time is fast approaching! I'm so excited to see new and familiar faces this year, and to share some incredible experiences together. I hope you already have your room reserved at the Magnolia Hotel! It includes a $30 breakfast voucher for each day you stay.

Things to know about this reunion:

Friday, we're going to be participating in a dinner and mystery theatre, Murder on Pirate Island, where we will sail the High Seas with a band of pirate cutthroats in search of the legendary treasure of La Buse. We'll meet Calico Jack Tremain, who claims he has solved the cryptogram that leads to the treasure. Also on hand are Shanghai Ned Brisco from Tortuga, Frankie Five Angels from the Barbary Coast, and disgraced aristocrat, Taffy Leinenkugel. Don't forget Sadie the washerwoman, she seems innocent enough … but there are stories about her … past! You can dress casual or like a pirate! And there is a cash bar all evening.

Saturday, we'll start the morning with our annual business meeting with the twist of being in a room with an actual bank vault! Then we will head to the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. 4 to 6 million people come every year from all over the world to experience this natural wonder. We'll take a guided coach tour of the park and see one-of-a-kind red rock formations and panoramic views. And stop at the Visitor and Nature Center, where we will have lunch and learn about the unique geology and history of this incredible landmark.

At the Visitor & Nature Center we'll experience a fifteen minute high definition virtual ride film, named "How Did the Red Rocks Get There?". The theater uses advanced audio-visual technology to create the illusion we're travelling in a time machine that will take us through millions of years of local geology, from magma to dinosaurs.

After we get back to the hotel we'll have time to share a social hour in the detached ballroom just across the street from the hotel before sitting down to a meal together in the same ballroom.

And then the moment we wait all year for, the exciting cousin against cousin bidding wars that is the charity auction. Please bring anything you'd like to donate to the fray, err…I mean cause. I know we have a lot of crafters. I'd love to see if we could come up with some Wolcott themed crafts.

Sunday, we will travel to Denver Botanic Gardens. Wander through the art galleries in the Freyer-Newman Center, step into the Tropical Conservatory, eat lunch sitting next to the water gardens, experience the sensory garden, and take in the mesmerizing twists of the bonsai garden, all at your own pace.

Alas, all good things must come to a "See you next year!". After returning to the Magnolia the official 2026 Wolcott Family Society Reunion will have concluded, but if you're interested in the unofficial recent tradition of the ghost tour please let me know. Transportation isn't provided for unofficial excursions.

If you're coming early or staying late and have some extra time there is a lot more I wish we could do!

Molly Brown house, home of American philanthropist, activist, and socialite Margaret Brown, who survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic and was known as the "Heroine of the Titanic" for her service to survivors. It's a peek into the interesting architecture you'll see in historic Denver. They even have a walking tour around the area where you can get even more insight!

There is some fascinating street art all over Denver, but especially in the Santa Fe district where the galleries and museums are. For very different experiences The Museum of Illusions is right around the corner from our hotel and Denver has its own Meow Wolf.

We have several craft breweries and distilleries of note. One of my favorites is Stranahan's. The tour includes a very cool shot glass you'll use to taste whiskey, and the people I've taken there that didn't like whiskey left liking whiskey. The guides are usually very entertaining and educational. I also really liked the tour at New Belgium, and I've heard that the tour at Coor's is worth it.

Going a bit further out, you can pick apples at YaYa Orchards in Longmont and have some incredibly delicious apple cider donuts. You can have a relaxing day shopping and dining at Pearl Street outdoor Mall in Boulder.

If you're heading to Estes stop by the Colorado Cherry Company on the edge of Lyons for some local cuisine and jams, jellies, ciders, pies, coffee, chocolate and honey.

Interested in becoming a State VP, but wondering about the job description? The Wolcott Family Society is a big organization, close to 500 members, and it's easy to feel like just another number. For most other organizations, the newsletter would be enough-it's got a lot of stuff in it. But this is a FAMILY society, and that means a more personal connection. Hearing from a cousin in your own state can be a great way to feel a more personal connection.

What's the job description? Pretty much what you want to make it. Since the goal is better connection between cousins, the first step is to let the cousins in your state know who you are, and that the line communication is open. A general letter to everyone telling them who you are, that you'd love to hear general family news and big events such as birth, death, marriage, vacations. Postcards are fun, too.

Why do you want to be one? It's fun, and a great way to get to know some members of your extended family that live, if not close to you, at least in the same state.
